Top 3 Elections: Ohio’s Path for
Better Choices & Better Representation

The Assignment
Better Choices is partnering with creators who reach Ohio voters to introduce Top 3: more viable choices for voters and a stronger reason for candidates to earn support beyond their base. Share the idea through an authentic Ohio story and invite your audience to learn more.

Creator Profile

We are seeking creators who have a strong Ohio audience and can speak naturally about voting, representation, and being heard in their communities. We welcome a range of backgrounds and political perspectives. An authentic connection to Ohio and an audience that includes Ohio voters matter most to this campaign.

We don’t want or need political experts - we want real Ohio voters who desire better representation and more viable options on the ballot. You may have a social media brand that is geared towards gardening, photography, sports, or lifestyle. Or maybe you aren’t an influencer at all and just have a large online community!

Help your audience imagine what changes when leaders have to listen to more of the people they hope to represent.

Campaign Goal

Many Ohioans have had the experience of voting against someone rather than for a candidate they genuinely support. Others wonder why elected leaders seem to listen most closely to a narrow group of supporters. Election rules help shape both the choices voters see and the way candidates compete. Top 3 is designed to give voters more viable choices and reward candidates who can earn support from a broader range of people. In an all-voter primary election, three candidates advance; the general election compares those finalists head-to-head.

The point of this campaign is to start a conversation about better representation and accountability, with the mechanics available for people who want to learn more. We want you to tell that story in your own voice, grounded in your life or community in Ohio. You do not need to support a party, candidate, or bill to take part. Your content should leave people curious about what an election could look like if more voters had a meaningful say and leaders had to keep earning their confidence.

Creative Direction

Campaign objective: Make Top 3 familiar and relevant to Ohio voters. Lead with the experience of limited choices or feeling unheard, then show how better rules could change what candidates must do to win.

The primary action is to learn more and join the conversation. This is an awareness campaign; the post should not read like a technical tutorial or a legislative endorsement.

Potential Prompts & Content Ideas

  • The choice you wish you had.
Describe a time you felt pushed to pick the “lesser of two evils.” What would it mean to vote for someone you actually believe in?

  • Who gets heard after Election Day?
Connect an Ohio issue your community cares about to the expectation that elected leaders listen and are accountable to all voters they serve, not just a loyal base.

  • A conversation with someone who disagrees.
What do you and a neighbor, relative, or friend still need from your leaders even if you vote differently?

  • The three-choice thought experiment.
Use a simple, clearly fictional choice to show why a third viable option feels different when the finalists are compared directly.

  • What should winning require?
Ask whether winning should depend on exciting a narrow base or earning confidence from more of the people a leader serves.

  • Sports comparison: the general election ballot is basically a round-robin sports tournament - creating more genuine competition and a fair playing field among candidates.

  • Better Competition: we expect real, viable choice when it comes to our restaurants, businesses, major purchases, and sports. Why are elections any different?

  • Ohio voices. Share a place, routine, or community experience that makes this personal, especially when it comes to better representation.

Tips for content & captions:

  • Open with a human hook. Try “Have you ever voted against someone instead of for someone?” or “What if winning meant earning support from more of us?”

  • Use your own voice. Speak from a real experience or a question you genuinely have. Humor and local detail are welcome when they fit your audience.

  • Connect rules to behavior. Explain that when candidates need support from more voters, they have more reason to listen, persuade, and stay accountable to those voters.

  • Lead with representation. Make the benefit clear before explaining the all-voter primary election or head-to-head comparisons.

  • Invite a conversation. Ask followers what would make them feel more represented or what they wish candidates had to do to earn their vote.

  • Keep claims measured. Top 3 creates better incentives; it does not promise perfect leaders, agreement, or an end to political division.
